Peru Power
This week over here has been pretty sweet - Elder Chuqui is a machine. It´s a new experience training him but nothing really too different. Elder Chuqui is really attentive and willing to learn so it makes my part really easy. We get up and study like normal I just take the lead in everything. I´ve also gotten an chance to learn more about Elder Chuqui and about Ecuador. Funny thing is that last Monday we ate an Ecuatorian dish that is called ´´encebollado´´ which in english is literally ´´onioned´´ which I thought was super funny but it was super delish.
But a small story is that poor Elder Chuqui, our second day together we were walking together through a park in our area and I see a member with her dog - which is a giant German sheperd. I go up to say hi and Elder Chuqui follows me. But what we don´t realize is that the dog comes to say hi as well - and runs up and bites Elder Chuqui in the leg! I felt so bad but had a good laugh afterwards as we helped Elder Chuqui disinfect the bite and put a band-aid on. Poor guy got bit by a dog the second day of his mission. But the good part is that the next day we ha lunch with that family and he made friends with the dog so we´re all good.
This week we have been working to find new people to teach, and the Lord has put people in our path. One example is an older man who was walking past us in the street greeted us saying ´´Elders´´ and I had no idea who he was so I stopped to talk to him -turns out he is an inactive member who lives right there in our area and also has a drinking problem. The next day we went to meet his family and ended up meeting his 18-year old daughter, so we invited her to an activity we organized and she came with her sisters! Long story short - the guy we contacted is married, his wife is also inactive for work reasons, and has four daughters who are not baptized. We taught them on Saturday and they seem really nice and open so we´ll be working we them this week.
Also this week Renzo accepted a baptismal date! We´re going to be working with him for the 14th of July.
We also had stake conference this sunday - we had to take a bus to a the institute building in Lima because President Godoy, the president of our area who was recently called to the presidency of the seventy came and announced that they are forming a new stake right here in Torreblanca, and that our current bishop is the new Stake President - big changes are coming. President Godoy also spoke about the value of education - no matter what your age. I felt it is so true. He spoke not only of a spiritual learning but emphasized temporal education as well. He put the example of his mother who learned at the age of 80 to use email and video calls. He also mentioned that the knowledge we have in this life will come with us in the next life. And because of that he said he doesn´t want to put off the things he can learn now for the next life.
I´m striving in this time to learn like you said Dad, to receive personal revelation. I know I have a lot of spiritual work to be doing in these days. Really prayer is one of the most valuable resources I have in the mission and in this life. I know that Heavenly Father always listens to our prayer and is always aware of our needs. We have a commandment to ask him for the things we stand in need of. I love this work and I´m ready to keep working.
Love you guys a lot,
-this is my area at night and me with Elder Chuqui
