Lima Life - but no pictures
Man this week started out pretty slow - we had a lot of appointments fall through and it was a little hard to get motivated. But once again the Lord showed that he is present in this work. On Saturday we were able to find a bunch of people and have some really good lessons! Some of the people we have been visiting with this week are Patrick - who we invited to baptism for this not this saturday but the next. With Analith - who is the sister of a recent convert - she came to conference last Sunday and came to church again this Sunday. She is a little shy so´s it´s kind of hard to find out what she´s feeling but it´s a process of feeling the Spirit that´s happening little by little.
I also learned this week that there are parts of my area that I hve never visited - our ward boundaries are basically a giant square with one flat part and one hilly and within the giant square there are three mission areas shaped like small rectangles - so each companionship has a flat part and hills in their area. In my area I had never been beyond a certain point in the hills, but the other day the Hermanas passed us a reference and we called and set up an appointment. I turns out this family lives at the very edge of our area - we took a bus for about 10 mins to arrive there. My companion was like ´´we´ve found the lost tribes of Israel´´ which made me laugh. We found the house and were able to teach the Mom and her son, they seem super cool! We are going to be back there this week.
Something funny is that whereever I go I always get comments about how tall I am - and when I tell people that I my brother is taller than me they all are super surprised. The downside is that Peruvian transportation is not my size.
We did have a really cool experience this week on Saturday - we went to one of our investigators houses - the kid who told us that he wanted to join our church while playing soccer, his name is Huberth - and we didn´t find him but we did talk to his Mom - who told us that she was not supportive of what her son was doing. My companion asked her if we could share with her what her son was learning and she accepted to listen to us for 3 minutes. We ended up sharing the Restoration with her and over the course of 10 minutes she started softening up until at the end of the lesson she promised to pray about the message. After the lesson we decided to know on this man´s door who we had talked to about a week ago and left a Book of Mormon with him. He opened the door and we found out that he had been reading the Book of Mormon the craziest part is that as we were talking somebody else starts walking to the door of the house and who is it but our investigator Huberth. I felt definitely that Heavenly Father was putting people in our path in that moment. The other man invited us in and we had a chance to teach both of them. It was a really strengthening experience for me and I hope for them as well.
Anyways Mama, I love what you said about love. I know that love is essential in every fasset of missionary work. Love for investigators, companions, members, leaders. contacts in the street. It is something I am definitely still developing as I go along, but I am so glad that I hve Jesus Christ as a perfect example of love in my life. I know that as we learn to follow Jesus Christ and emulate the things he did we will develop charity and be able to experience some part of the love that Jesus Christ feels for us.
Les amo!
