Life in Lima
How´s it going? It´s good to see it´s snowing in Canada I can still prove to people here in Peru that it´s super cold where I come from. Also does Quinn have glasses now? Bro he´s such a grown up little man.
This week we´ve had some good experiences! This last p-day we got together as a zone to cook a giant meal and play uno together - it was a blast. Today it´s possible that my companion might be doing a drawing for one of our investigators that works in a barbershop. He´s a really good artist he showed me a few of his photos he has printed out - he told me his instagram name is ´´artistadedios´´ (artist from God) if you want to look him up.
We also had a chance this week to listen to President Godfrey in zone conference, I always like Zone Conferences because they give us a chance to see the ways we can improve in the way we operate as missionaries. I then got a good chance to apply the things we learned directly because on Friday I went on a companionship exchange, Elder Pallmay from Ecuador came to my area. He taught me a few things and I got a chance to apply some of things we learned. One thing I do know is that especially here in the mission one of the most precious resources we have is time. I am learning a lot how to use my time wisely here, which people we need to go visit and teaching lessons clearly with the time people give us.
And Dad asked me how the church meetings are different here - overall they are practically the same the only differences are small, like in sacrament meeting the speakers each have a different topic, the first speaker isn´t always a youth speaker, when somebody from the high council speaks, he doesn´t bring a companion to speak with him. Apart from that if somebody came to a church meeting here it would look pretty similar to a church meeting there in Canada or the States. Principios del Evangelio in the second hour I´m sure is pretty similar as well because the same manual is used. In the Priesthood quorums as well is the same - a short opening excercises with the young men and then we split into young men and a now united Elder´s quorum. It is pretty cool to see how the church operates in the same way in the whole world.
This week we have been working with an investigator named Analith - her sister is a less-active member who was baptized about two years ago. She is 17 and her sister is 19, their parents live in the jungle of Peru they are here to study in university. We got to know Analith and we taught her a couple times when she started to open up a bit more and express her doubts about God and baptism. We answered her questions but mainly directed her to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it is true. It is still a work in progress but things are going good so far. She pops up in one of the photos I´ll send.
On Saturday Danilo was baptized! He is the 8 year old son of Juana and Andres who got baptized two weeks ago - Danilo was afraid to enter the water on that day so we decided to wait so he could feel more comfortable. He was baptized on Saturday and was the funniest little kid because he puts one foot into the font and doesn´t want to go any further because the water was lukewarm and slowly he gets in, a Priest (his name is Arnold) from the ward says the prayer and baptizes him and then goes to exit the font with Danilo - except Danilo wants to stay, he probably would have stayed a while if Arnold didn´t make him leave. It was pretty funny as well as a spiritual experience. To see a family come together in the gospel of Jesus Christ like that is a humbling experience. Especially the little things like Juana and Andres asked us for help last Sunday to fill out a fast offering slip. I am so humbled to be able to be a part of this process and I know that this really is the Lord´s work.
I love you guys a lot! Hope you have a good week!
