One Month Done!
Hola Familia!
This week has been awesome! But also a little crazy!
It started when when we had no rain for a few days, then a crazy storm one night where it was pouring in sheets, I´ve definitely made good use of the umbrella you bought me. Then the crazy part of this week was that there was an earthquake in Mexico. We´re all ok here at the CCM, but apparently it was pretty destructive in other parts of Mexico City. We´re praying for everyone here. It was a little crazy because we were sitting in class and all of a sudden the ground started shaking. So the earthquake alarms they have here at the CCM started sounding and then we all had to go stand in these safety circles outside, kind of reminds me of a school fire drill.
Learning Spanish is coming along too, although in one of our practice lessons this week I asked our instructor how her wife was on accident - oops! This week we also started playing a game with our teacher in the morning - her name is Hermana Gomez-Cañedo - where one person is the ´´Latino´´ and is only allowed to speak Spanish, she has to guess who that person is. We won two days in a row and as a reward she bought us candy (these delicious wafer things called Cremacs, I don´t think we have them in Canada). We´ve also officially started our last week here in the CCM, we´ve got these stickers on our nametags that make it official. Peru is T minus 5 days!!! I´m excited!! We fly out on Monday night!
An interesting thing this week was me and my companion Elder Calhoon got to teach Priesthood meeting this Sunday, Elder Calhoon gave a powerful testimony and it was a really edifying Sunday meeting. We´ve been making an effort to talk to more of the Latino missionaries here at the CCM too, we usually play soccer for 45 minutes in the afternoon and we play Latinos, they´re awesome, a lot of them are serving missions right here in Mexico City.
Some of the spiritual highlights of this week was on Sunday we had a devotional from Presidente Bennett, the president here at the CCM and his wife Hermana Bennett. They talked about the Book of Mormon and shared a study the church did where they had people read a single page of the Book of Mormon and write down their thoughts. The people´s responses really highlighted the light of the Book of Mormon, one guy even wrote down ´´where can I get the next page?´´, and they testified that the Book of Mormon is most powerful when it is open and in the hands of others. For anybody who has not read the Book of Mormon, it really is a true book, it contains the words of Christ and will help you find peace and happiness in this life. El Libro de Mormon es un libro verdadero de Escritura y es aquí a nos ayudar a venir a Cristo.
We also had a devotional broadcast from the Provo MTC this Tuesday night. Elder Quentin L. Cook and his wife spoke. Elder Cook talked about having love for the Saviour, he bore a powerful testimony of Jesus Christ and invited us to love the people in our missions. We had a meeting this week where we talked about finding people in the mission field, I am so blessed to have this opportunity to serve the people in Peru. Yo sé que este iglesia es la verdadera iglesia de Jesucristo en la tierra.
Love you guys!
